DESCRIPTION

  • MAXcess is a family of scalable, integrated access equipment that facilitate the transmission of multiprotocol data, voice, fax and LAN over either Frame Relay, Leased Line, DDS or ISDN services. MAXcess provides freedom of choice of service and topology, by offering a scalable solution to corporate networking needs from SOHO to large headquarters.
  • Bandwidth Allocation
  • Based on a standard Frame Relay switching architecture, MAXcess offers dynamic bandwidth allocation. Coupled with high quality voice compression, MAXcess ensures efficient use of bandwidth over leased lines, Frame Relay or ISDN services.
  • Fragmentation
  • MAXcess utilizes the proprietary Frame Relay+ protocol to send long data frames when possible, and segment them only when necessary, thus ensuring minimum overhead for voice/data integration. Frame Relay+ uses standard Frame Relay frames.
  • Prioritization
  • Support of multiple simultaneous applications is provided using seven user-defined priority levels. The prioritization and fragmentation mechanism ensures high quality voice, low delay and minimal bandwidth overhead.
  • Silence Suppression
  • MAXcess supports silence suppression to save bandwidth by automatically detecting silence and adjusting transmission to reduce bandwidth consumption.
  • DLCI Multiplexing
  • MAXcess can encapsulate several voice and data channels over a single DLCI, in order to minimize the monthly service charges over public Frame Relay networks.
  • Voice Switching
  • MAXcess utilizes advanced voice switching techniques. It uses routing tables to manipulate the DTMF dialed digits, thus creating a flexible and user-transparent dialing plan of 3 to 22 digits. Switching the voice calls within the Frame Relay network eliminates switching via an external PABX, thus saving costs of additional PABX modules. Voice quality is also improved since there is no need for multiple compression/decompression.
  • Scalability
  • MAXcess is available on four platforms offering the best solution for specific networking needs:
  • MAXcess-3000 is a 4U high modular hub, supporting up to 12 I/O slots, a common logic module and two power supply modules.
  • MAXcess-3004 is a 2U high modular hub for smaller sites, supporting five I/O modules, a common logic module and a power supply module.
  • MAXcess-300 is a compact 1U high, non-modular access product for the branch office. It provides connection to four analog or two ISDN-S0 voice/fax channels and six data ports. Optional LAN port can be used instead of one data port, supporting IP/IPX routing.
  • MAXcess-30 is a compact desktop access product for smaller sites such as SOHO, supporting two analog or one ISDN-S0 voice/fax channels and three data ports. An optional LAN port can be used instead of a data port, supporting IP/IPX routing.

The following table presents all the I/O modules supported by MAXcess-3000 / MAXcess-3004:

MANAGEMENT

  • The MAXcess family offers three alternative methods for operating and managing the system:
  • ASCII terminal
  • Telnet
  • RADview Network Management System over PC or HPOV
  • RADview Network Management System is a Windows-based or HPOV-based SNMP application, which permits configuration, diagnostics and monitoring from a central management station. It features pull-down menus, dialog boxes and color graphics to guide the operator in the execution of selected tasks. Communication with the MAXcess SNMP agent is via a serial SLIP port, or in-band via a Frame Relay port.
  • Terminal interface allows configuration, control and error monitoring from an ASCII terminal.
  • Telnet is supported allowing configuration and control of the products over WAN or LAN.
  • Diagnostics
  • MAXcess incorporates numerous test features for easy maintenance and rapid fault detection. Upon power-up and during normal operation, automatic self-test and link-test are performed, and all problems are reported to the management system. Alarm information is collected and stored in memory for easy access by the management system.
  • Software Upgrade
  • MAXcess uses FLASH memory to enable software upgrading. A central location can be used for upgrading all remote sites.
  • MAXcess-3000/3004 MODULES
    System Modules
  • System modules include:
  • CL – Common Logic module
  • PS – Power Supply module
  • Ringer – Ringer-3000R for MAXcess-3000 or RI option for MAXcess-3004, support ringing voltage for connected telephones, via FXS modules.
  • Note: Power supply redundancy can be achieved by adding a power supply module to the Basic Unit, only in MAXcess-3000).
  • I/O Modules
  • Up to 12 modules can be placed in the MAXcess-3000, and five in the MAXcess-3004. Any combination of I/O modules (voice or data) can be configured in the hub. Both MAXcess-3000 and MAXcess-3004 utilize the same voice or data I/O modules. Each data port of the low/high speed modules can function as a network link integrating voice and data, or as a data I/O port connected to a data device.
For detailed information, see accompanying inserts.
